Richardson is most famous for all of its top companies. While it has over five thousand businesses, the city is a hub for telecommunications companies in particular, with AT&T, Ericsson, Verizon and Samsung all having operations there, as well as other large corporations such as Texas Instruments, Cisco Systems, Bank of America and Fujitsu. It’s one of the best places to work in the area and employs many residents as well as others in the Metroplex.
For its small size, Richardson has over 100,000 residents, so it’s the right place for people who love a thriving, busy town. While a bit older than other cities in the area with a median age of 36, it’s still a family town, with a large percentage of children below age eighteen and a 58% rate of married households. Median income is $52,000, which reflects the large range of opportunities for a tremendous assortment of jobs available in the city.
With all of the commerce going on in the neighborhood, many activities and attractions have sprouted up as well. The economy is robust and the money produced flows back into the neighborhood in the form of many communal projects and city initiatives.
The Eisemann Center for Performing Arts is an outstanding arts facility that holds all types of performances and frequently updates their program. There are thirty two parks set on vast lands and include multiple sporting fields, large, grassy areas for picnicking and relaxing, first-rate play equipment for kids, hiking trails and even lighted tennis courts for public use. There’s the Cottonwood Arts Festival, which features visual art presentations from the nation’s top artists, and the Wildflower Arts and Music Festival, which is a six day extravaganza that features music performances, food and even a section for kids.
Aquatics is big in Richardson, with five pools available to the public for a $2 fee, some of which features kiddie and baby pools. Lesson instruction is available as well. There is softball, volleyball, football soccer and more, and a large, fully equipped gymnastic center. Three full size recreational facilities offer fitness classes, pre-school, sports and many recreational classes for all age groups. For the Golf aficionado, there’s the Sherrill Park Golf Course, rated number one for economy golf courses by the Dallas Morning News.
Most of the schools in Richardson fall into the Richardson school district, which has won honors for its achievements, but a small section is actually in Collin country and falls into the Wylie district. There is higher education as well, with the University of Texas at Dallas in the city, as well as Richland College, a Dallas Country Community College.
As a business town, there are many top rates hotels and dining establishments in the area. There are no less than fifteen hotels, many with fine restaurants and conference and event facilities. Richardson is part of DART, the Dallas area transit system, with the most light rail stops of any city outside of Dallas, serving all of the business and residents of the area.
